Patriots edge Barons to slip into lead in Pollock final

MOUNT FOREST – Brody Leblanc struck for a pair of goals to help the Mount Forest Patriots claim a 3-2 victory over the Hanover Barons in PJHL Pollock Division championship series play Sunday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The win gives the Patriots a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Patriots scored single goals in the first and second periods before Hanover cut the gap to a single goal early in the third before the Patriots restored their two-goal lead 36 seconds later. Hanover tallied with 1:36 to go to complete the scoring in the game.

While Leblanc scored twice while Elijah Brahaney netted the other goal. Dylan Szymanowski assisted on two goals while Jared Rowe, Austin Griffin and Brahaney each had one assist.

Carter Moran and Ryan Colquhoun had a goal apiece for Hanover while assists went to Curtis Arnold, Jonah White, Cam Angst and Payton McIsaac.

The Barons outshot the Patriots 30-26 while Mount Forest went 2-for-6 on the power play while Hanover was scoreless on five power plays.

Vance Meyer had 28 saves for Mount Forest while Riley McCabe had 23 for Hanover.

Game 4 of the series is set for Wednesday at Hanover’s P and H Centre at 8 p.m. while Game 5 is to go Friday at Mount Forest starting at 8 p.m.
