Patriots edged in overtime by Mitchell
MITCHELL – The Mount Forest Patriots yielded a goal in overtime as they were edged 3-2 by the Mitchell Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Mitchell arena.
The win pushed Mitchell into the lead of the Pollock Division.

It was Mount Forest’s third loss in three meetings with Mitchell this season as they had earlier lost 3-2 at Mount Forest Nov. 26 and 5-0 at Mount Forest Oct. 9.
Braeden Burdett scored the winner at 3:45 of overtime for Mitchell. Mark Cassidy set up the goal.
Benjamin Demoe’s power-play goal for the Patriots with just over six minutes to go in the third period forced the overtime. Assists went to Malcolm Skeete and Darcy Winkler.
Skeete had opened the scoring in the game with a power-play goal midway through the first period. Winkler and Demoe drew assists.
Mitchell battled back to tie it later in the first on a pair of goals separated by 55 seconds. Aiden McMann and Evan Dowd scored the goals while assists were awarded to Jared Lesouder, Seth Hguyen, Carter Lewis and Tyson Hall.
Mount Forest outshot Mitchell 43-23 and went 2-for-6 on its power play while Mitchell was scoreless on five power plays.
Tyler Parr had 41 saves in net for Mitchell while Michael Brassor had 20 saves for the Patriots.
The Patriots are to start a three-game homestand against Mitchell Friday at 8:30 p.m. They’re also to play the Goderich Flyers Saturday at 8 p.m. and Kincardine Bulldogs Dec. 17 at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday’s match followed a four-game homestand for the Patriots during which time they went 2-2-0-0.
