Patriots fall again to Stayner to face seasonal extinction

STAYNER – The Mount Forest Patriots will be out to try to prevent history from repeating itself when they host the Stayner Siskins in the fourth game of the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven North Conference final Tuesday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Just as they did this season, the Patriots won the Pollock Division championship last season. Then they were swept in four games by the Carruthers Division-champion Alliston Hornets in the North final.

Stayner won the Carruthers Division title this season.

The Siskins grabbed a 3-0 lead in the series Sunday at the Stayner Memorial Arena with a 5-3 victory.

Stayner led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 4-2 after the second.

Blair Butchart and Klayton Hoelscher each had a goal and an assist for Mount Forest while Brendon Aitken also scored. Ryley Cribbin and Dylan Brown each had one assist.

Ben Hughes had a hat trick and also assisted on one of Ty Kulba’s two goals. Kevin Boyd had two assists while Cameron Knowles, Kyle Linney, Kulba and Eli Gordon had one each.

The Siskins outshot the Patriots 37-33 and went 2-for-5 on their power play while the Patriots went 1-for-9. Stayner also had a shorthanded goal.

David Lobsinger took the loss in net for the Patriots while Marcus Semiao was the winner in net for Stayner.

The teams are to meet Tuesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex in Game 4 of the series. Game time is 8 p.m.
