Patriots fight division leaders to tie in overtime

HANOVER – The Mount Forest Patriots battled the Pollock Division-leading Hanover Barons to a 4-4 standoff in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Hanover’s P and H Centre.

The game was the first for the Patriots since a 4-2 loss to the Mitchell Hawks at Mitchell Dec. 18.

The Patriots scored the opening goal of the game, but had to rally from a 4-2 deficit midway through the second period for the tie. Mount Forest scored the final goal of the game at 12:16 of the third period.

A seven-minute overtime period failed to produce a winner in the game.

Hayden Coulter, Aaron McGuirk, Kobe Roe and Calan Tanzi-Foshay scored a goal apiece for the Patriots while Christopher Prucha, Carter Ryan, Benjamin Tenhag, Coulter, Benjamin Demoe, Kyle Kuznik and Caleb Cribbin each had an assist.

Scoring for Hanover were Bryan Richardson, Owen Torrie, Jonah White and Drayton Howell. Picking up one assist apiece were Dylan Richardson, Chris Ferri, Alex McGillivray, Ryan Goetz, Trent Verbeek and Torrie.

Mount Forest failed to score on the lone power play of the game and the Patriots outshot the Barons 32-30.

Michael Brassor had 26 saves for Mount Forest while Riley McCabe had 32 for Hanover.

The Patriots are to host the Walkerton Hawks Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
