Patriots finish home schedule with victory
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored four goals in the first period as they wrapped up the home portion of their Provincial Junior Hockey League’s regular season with a 6-2 victory over the Mitchell Hawks Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
All eight goals in the game were scored at the same end of the arena as Mitchell scored its two goals in the second and the Patriots added their other two goals in the third.
Chet Philips, Michael Stefanelli, Ryley Cribbin, Jack Birkett, Colton Culbert and Nathan Bolger scored a goal apiece for Mount Forest while Cribbin assisted on three of the goals. Getting one assist apiece were Culbert, Hayden Coulter, Blair Butchart, Stefanelli, Blair Jenkins, Parker Miller and Michael Anselmini.
Jarett Bogdon scored both goals for Mitchell and Jake Finlayson assisted on both. Spencer Dowd also had an assist.
The Patriots outshot the Hawks 42-32 and went 2-for-7 on their power play while Mitchell went 1-for-8.
Mason Kameka had 30 saves for the win in the Patriots net while Seth Monkouse started and had seven saves in 11:52 before being replaced by Lucas Bain following Mount Forest’s third goal. Bain had 29 saves the rest of the way.
The Patriots have clinched first in the Pollock Division. They lead at 32-7-1-1 while Mitchell is tied with the Hanover Barons for fourth. Hanover has completed its regular season and is at 23-16-1-2 while Mitchell is at 21-13-2-5 with one game to go. The Kincardine Bulldogs are third at 24-15-0-3, two points ahead of Mitchell.
The Patriots and Mitchell are to meet Sunday at Mitchell in the final game of the division’s regular season. Game time at the Mitchell arena is 3 p.m.
Mount Forest will get a bye in the division’s quarter-finals.
