Patriots get on a roll to drop Goderich

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for four consecutive goals on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Goderich Flyers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The string of four straight goals started late in the first period and came to an end early in the third and turned a 2-1 lead into a 6-1 advantage.

Dylan Brown, Jack Birkett, Parker Miller, Derek Williams, Troy Weber and Chet Philips each had a goal for the Patriots while single assists went to Michael Stefanelli, Ryan Goetz, Michael Anselmini, Birkett, Thomas Haffner, Jack Francis, Philips, Nathan Bolger, Thomas Coulter, Brown and Luke Hoelscher.

Chad Treble and Eric Vander Eyk had the goals for Goderich while assists were awarded to Riley Conners, Treble and Jeff Fritzley.

The Patriots outshot the Flyers 34-32 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while Goderich went 1-for-6.

Aidan Quish made 30 saves in net for the Patriots to get the win while Branden Bean made 21 saves before being relieved by Kyle Dunlap in the third period. Dunlap stopped all seven shots he faced.

With the win the Patriots (10-4-1-0) move into a tie for second place with the Kincardine Bulldogs (10-7-1-0). Goderich (3-12-0-2) is seventh.

The Patriots are to play the Stayner Siskins (10-2-0-2) at the Stayner Memorial Arena Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
