Patriots, Hanover tied 1-1 in Pollock Division final

HANOVER – The Mount Forest Patriots surrendered a pair of goals in the third period Friday night at Hanover’s P and H Centre as they suffered a 3-1 setback to the Hanover Barons in the second game of the best-of-seven PJHL Pollock Division final.

The Patriots won the opening game of the series 8-0 Thursday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots never led in Friday’s game.

Hanover scored the lone goal of the first period before Mount Forest netted the only goal of the second. The Barons went ahead for good 1:51 into the third and added a shorthanded goal with 14 seconds to go in the game.

Austin Griffin scored the goal for Mount Forest on a power play. Brody Lablanc and Elijah Brahaney drew assists.

Curtis Arnold had two goals for Hanover while Spencer Davidson had the shorthanded marker. Dylan Richardson assisted on all three goals while Drayton Howell and Ryan Goetz each had one assist.

The Patriots outshot Hanover 28-27 in the evenly-contested match. The difference in shots on net in each period was a single shot.

Vance Meyer had 24 saves for Mount Forest while Riley McCabe had 27 for Hanover.

Each team went 1-for-5 on their power plays.

Thursday, Meyer stopped all 29 shots he faced for the shutout for the Patriots who received two goals apiece from Leblanc, Matthew Weiler and Brahaney while Ben Tenhag and Bryan Richardson had one each.

Jordan Leitch had three assists while Weiler and Dylan Szymanowski had two each and Kyle Detweiler, Tenhag, Richardson, Griffin, Leblanc and Brahaney had one apiece.

The Patriots outshot the Barons 33-29 and went 2-for-5 on their power play while Hanover was scoreless on four power plays.

Mount Forest had won its best-of-seven divisional semifinal with the Wingham Ironmen 4-3 with wins in the sixth and seventh games.

Hanover defeated the Mitchell Hawks 4-1 in the other divisional semifinal.

The Pollock Division champ is to play the Carruthers Division champ in the OHL Junior C Schmalz Cup quarter-finals.

Alliston Hornets won the opening game of the best-of-seven Carruthers final 3-2 over the Stayner Siskins Thursday. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Alliston while Game 3 is to go Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Stayner.

Game 3 of the Mount Forest-Hanover series is slated for Sunday at 7 p.m. at Mount Forest.
