Patriots hit in each period to blank Wingham

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored once in each period on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Wingham Ironmen in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Joshua Peters turned aside 33 shots to get the shutout in the Mount Forest net.

Devon Carson was tagged with the loss although he made 43 saves for Wingham.

The hosts were scoreless on six power plays while Wingham had four power plays and the Patriots did hit for a shorthanded goal.

Jared Rowe scored the first-period goal for Mount Forest while Christopher Prucha netted the other two. Getting one assist apiece were Aaron McGuirk, Riley Torrie, Matthew Weiler and Hayden Coulter.

Mount Forest is fifth in the Pollock Division at 2-1-0-1 while the Mitchell Hawks and Wingham are tied for the lead with identical 4-2-0-0 records. Hanover Barons are third at 3-1-0-1, Kincardine Bulldogs fourth at 3-2-0-0, Walkerton Hawks sixth at 1-4-0-0 and Goderich Flyers seventh at 0-5-0-0.

The Patriots are to play Goderich at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Centre Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in their next outing.
