Patriots hit in overtime to slip by Hanover

HANOVER – Aaron McGuirk’s goal in overtime kept the Mount Forest Patriots unbeaten in Provincial Junior Hockey League play this season.

McGuirk’s goal at 3:56 of overtime gave the Patriots a 4-3 victory over the Hanover Barons Friday night at Hanover’s P and H Centre.

The winning goal was also the only Mount Forest goal not scored by Caleb Cribbin in the game as Cribbin had a hat trick to raise his seasonal total to nine goals.

The Patriots led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 3-1 after the second.

Bryan Richardson, Elijah Brahaney, McGuirk and Jordan Leitch each had an assist for the Patriots.

Carter Moran, Ryan Colquhoun and Curtis Arnold scored once each for Hanover while Moran had two assists and Cam Angst, Jonah White and Payton McIsaac had one each.

The Barons outshot the Patriots 54-35 including a 37-17 advantage in the second and third periods combined.

Mount Forest went 2-for-5 on the power play and Hanover went 1-for-6.

Tristan Szymanowski turned aside 51 shots to get the win in the Patriots’ net while Hanover’s Riley McCabe had 31 saves.

The Patriots (5-0-0-0) and the Barons (4-0-1-1) are tied for the lead in the Pollock Division, although the Patriots have a game in hand.

The Patriots are to host the Kincardine Bulldogs (3-3-1-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
