Patriots leave Goderich behind in second period
MOUNT FOREST – Five goals in the second period helped the Mount Forest Patriots drop the Goderich Flyers 9-5 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The second-period goals pushed the Patriots to a 6-3 lead by the end of the period.

The teams had been tied 1-1 at the end of the first period.
Darcy Winkler and Malcolm Skeete scored twice apiece for Mount Forest while single goals were added by Jared Rowe, Benjamin Demoe, Reid Caswell, Calan Tanzi-Foshay and Caleb Cribbin. Demoe, Riley Torrie and Hayden Coulter each had three assists while Winkler, Christopher Prucha, Tanzi-Foshay, Cribbin, Matthew Weiler and Carter Ryan had one each.
Ethan Hill scored twice for Goderich with Carson Fletcher, Nolan MacKinnon and Riley Kuepfer getting one goal apiece. Parker Gibbings had two assists and Bryce Lee, Kyler Patterson, Hill, MacKinnon, Cohen Le Souder, Tikai Baldwin and Kuepfer each had one.
The Patriots outshot the Flyers 65-30 including a 24-9 advantage in the third period. The hosts went 1-for-2 on their power play while Goderich went 2-for-3.
Michael Brassor had 25 saves to get the win for Mount Forest while Odin Hessel had 56 saves for Goderich.
The Patriots (10-6-0-1) are to host the Wingham Ironmen (11-6-0-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.
