Patriots net final three goals to top Mitchell
MITCHELL – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the final three goals of the game to claim a 5-2 victory over the Mitchell Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night at the Mitchell arena.
The Patriots led 2-1 at the end of the first period and the teams scored once each in the second.
Chris Ferri had a pair of goals for Mount Forest while single goals were added by Max Davis, Thomas Haffner and Jack Birkett. Klayton Hoelscher assisted on three of the goals while Troy Weber had two assists and Parker Miller, Dawson Bolger, Haffner and goalie David Lobsinger had one each.
Braeden Brudett and Tyson Hall scored for Mitchell and Jake Finlayson and Brett Denny each had an assist.
The Patriots outshot Mitchell 54-26 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while Mitchell was scoreless on five power plays.
Lobsinger had 24 saves to get the win in net for Mount Forest while Owen Hahn made 49 saves in the loss for Mitchell.
The Patriots are second in the Pollock Division at 19-8-1-0. Wingham Ironmen lead at 21-5-1-1 and Mitchell is fourth at 11-15-1-2.
The game was the first of three in four days for the Patriots who are to host the Goderich Flyers (7-19-1-3) Friday at 8 p.m. and Hanover Barons (10-15-1-2) Saturday at 8 p.m.
