Patriots nip Wingham in overtime in series opener
MOUNT FOREST – Hayden Coulter’s goal in overtime capped off a comeback to give the Mount Forest Patriots a 3-2 victory over the Wingham Ironmen in the opening game of the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Pollock Division final Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
Wingham held a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second period before the Patriots started their comeback.
William Black scored for Mount Forest 36 seconds after Wingham’s second goal while Ryley Cribbin tied it early in the third.
Blair Butchart assisted on two of Mount Forest’s goals while Riley Torrie, Troy Weber and Coulter each had one assist.
Trevor Donaldson and Kyle Stanbury scored the goals for Wingham while assists were awarded to Tanner Reid, Corey Restoule, Rhys Vollmer and Justin Donnelly.
Wingham outshot the Patriots 37-28 and both teams were 0-for-3 on their power plays.
Gleb Poliakov had 35 saves for the Patriots while Devon Carson had 25 for Wingham.
Second game of the best-of-seven series is set for Sunday at the Wescast Main arena in Wingham. Game time is 3 p.m.
Third game is to go Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest arena.
