Patriots on verge of securing first place in division
KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots are a win away from clinching top spot in the PJHL’s Pollock Division.
The Patriots put themselves on the cusp of a first-place finish Saturday night when they edged the Kincardine Bulldogs 4-3 in overtime at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.

Although the Patriots scored first in the game, they had to rally for the victory as they trailed 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second.
Brody Leblanc’s shorthanded goal for Mount Forest at 1:11 of the third period was the lone goal of that period and it created the tie that forced the overtime.
Leblanc tallied again at 6:27 of OT to give the Patriots the win.
Elijah Brahaney scored the other two goals for the Patriots, one on the power play and the other with Mount Forest playing shorthanded. Dylan Szymanowski, Leblanc, William Black, Brahaney and Aidan Doig each had an assist.
Gavin Downs scored twice in a span of 4:46 in the first period for Kincardine while Kieran Moore netted the second-period goal. Harrison Meulensteen assisted on all three goals while Moore, Brennan Long and Carter Servais each had one assist.
The Patriots outshot the Bulldogs 37-25 and went 1-for-6 on their power play while Kincardine went 2-for-7.
Tristan Szymanowski had 22 saves in the Mount Forest net while Christian DeJong had 33 saves for Kincardine.
The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 30-9-0-1 with two games to play. They’re five points ahead of the Hanover Barons (26-9-2-2), but the Barons have a game in hand. A win by Mount Forest or loss by Hanover will secure a first-place finish for the Patriots.
Mitchell Hawks are third at 24-11-3-2 and are followed by the Wingham Ironmen in fourth at 25-13-2-1, Kincardine in fifth at 17-17-5-1, Walkerton Capitals in sixth at 7-30-1-1 and Goderich Flyers in seventh at 6-31-2-0.
The team finishing first gets a bye in the division’s quarter-finals.
The Patriots are to finish their regular season next weekend. They’re to play the Bulldogs in Kincardine again Friday at 8:30 p.m. and host Hanover Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
