
Patriots pull away to double Walkerton Capitals
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots held the Walkerton Capitals scoreless after the first period as they skated to a 6-3 victory in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the first and the Patriots led 5-3 after the second.

Mount Forest scored its first-period goals in the first nine minutes of the game, but Walkerton rallied to pull even by the 18th minute.
Josh Presley, Riley Torrie, Jordan Leitch, Bryan Richardson, Caleb Cribbin and Cameron Lytle each scored a goal for the Patriots while Elijah Brahaney and Cribbin each had two assists. Single assists were awarded to Evan Dewar, Jared Rowe, Matthew Weiler and Dylan Szymanowski.
Scoring for Walkerton were Tyler Ewald, Owen Tichbourne and Ryan Oakes while assists went to Jett Morningstar, Sam Shakes and Caleb Morrison.
The Capitals outshot the Patriots 45-40 while Mount Forest was 1-for-3 on its power play and Walkerton was scoreless on six power plays.
Vance Meyer had 42 saves to pick up the win in net for the Patriots while Walkerton’s Logan Bromley had 34 saves.
The win keeps Mount Forest unbeaten in Pollock Division play as they’re at 4-0-0-0. Walkerton is at 0-3-0-1.
The Patriots are to play the division-leading Hanover Barons (4-0-0-1) at Hanover’s P & H Centre Friday at 8 p.m.
