Patriots put Kincardine away in third period

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored three times in the third period as they downed the Kincardine Bulldogs 5-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Kyle Kuznik, who started the season with the Norwich Merchants, scored his first two goals for the Patriots in his eighth game with the team to spark the hosts.

The Patriots never trailed in the game. The teams scored once apiece in the first period before the Patriots had the lone goal of the second.

Kuznik followed with his two goals about 10 minutes apart in the third. They were special teams markers with the first one scored with the hosts killing off a penalty and the second one with Mount Forest on a power play.

Mark Aljoe, Caleb Cribbin and Christopher Prucha scored the other goals for the Patriots while Benjamin Tenhag had two assists and Carter Ryan, Darcy Winkler, Calan Tanzi-Foshay and Matthew Weiler had one apiece.

Parker Miller and Jerrid Fossold scored for Kincardine while assists were awarded to Steven Grant, Brennan Long, Austin Waite and Carter Servais.

The Patriots outshot Kincardine 43-31 and went 2-for-3 on their power play while Kincardine was 1-for-4 with a manpower advantage.

Michael Brassor picked up the win in net for the Patriots with 29 saves while Joshua Jacklin had 38 saves for Kincardine.

The Patriots are to wrap up the 2021 portion of their schedule with a 7 p.m. game Saturday against the Mitchell Hawks at the Mitchell Arena.

First game of 2022 is to be a Jan. 2 game between the Patriots and Kincardine at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.
