Patriots’ rally comes up goal short in loss to Wingham

MOUNT FOREST – A third-period rally fell short as the Mount Forest Patriots were edged 5-4 by the Wingham Ironmen in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Ironmen scored the only two goals of the first period and extended their lead to 4-1 by the end of the second period. The Patriots closed the gap to a single goal with a pair of goals exactly two minutes apart in the middle stages of the third period. Wingham added an empty-netter with 1:16 to play, but the hosts got the gap back to a single goal with the game’s final goal with 42 seconds to go.
