Patriots rebound in third period to ground Goderich
GODERICH – The Mount Forest Patriots rebounded from a three-goal deficit to post a 6-4 victory over the Goderich Flyers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Complex.
The Patriots won with four goals in the third period when they outshot the Flyers 16-5.

The hosts had led 3-0 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second. They scored a power-play goal early in the third to go up by two, but the Patriots connected for their four goals in a span of just over five minutes in the final half of the period to claim the win.
Darcy Winkler collected two goals and three assists for Mount Forest while Calan Tanzi-Foshay had a goal and three assists and Christopher Prucha had a goal and two assists. Matthew Weiler and Hayden Coulter scored the other goals while single assists were given to Benjamin Tenhag, Derrick Cornfield and Coulter.
Ethan Hill scored twice for Goderich while Ryan Kowalczyk and Riley Kuepfer added single goals. Nolan MacKinnon gathered three assists and Kyler Patterson had one.
The Patriots outshot the Flyers 41-25 while both teams had five manpower advantage situations. Mount Forest had one power-play goal while Goderich had two and also had a shorthanded goal.
Joshua Peters had 21 saves to get the win in the Mount Forest net while Odin Hessel had 35 saves for Goderich.
Mount Forest is fourth in the Pollock Division at 8-4-0-1 while Goderich is seventh with 14 losses in as many outings.
The Patriots have two games this weekend as they’re to play the Wingham Ironmen (third at 9-5-0-0) at Wingham’s North Huron Wescast Community Centre Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Hanover Barons (second at 10-2-0-1) at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex Saturday at 8 p.m.
