Patriots ride first-period goal to shutout victory

WALKERTON – A goal in the first period stood up as the lone goal of the game as the Mount Forest Patriots edged the Walkerton Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Walkerton Community Centre.

Caleb Cribbin scored that goal at 11:02 of the opening frame with help from Benjamin Tenhag and Derrick Cornfield.

Joshua Peters stopped 30 shots for the shutout for the Patriots.

Walkerton’s Josh Silverman had 48 saves for the hosts.

The game was a quick affair, over in two hours, as the teams were whistled for 10 minutes in penalties total – six to Mount Forest.

Mount Forest is fourth in the Pollock Division at 6-3-0-1 while Walkerton is sixth at 1-8-0-1.

The Patriots are to tangle with the Kincardine Bulldogs (3-5-0-1) at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre Sunday at 4 p.m.
