Patriots roll to victory over Hanover

HANOVER – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for seven consecutive goals as they dropped the Hanover Barons 8-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Hanover’s P and H Centre.

Blair Butchart’s goal at 11:59 of the first period broke a 1-1 tie and started the onslaught by the Patriots.

Mount Forest led 4-1 at the end of the first period and 6-1 after the second.

Klayton Hoelscher had a hat trick for the Patriots while Jack Birkett, Brock Philips, Ryley Cribbin and Hayden Coulter also scored. Luke Hoelscher, Butchart, Klayton Hoelscher, Philips and Thomas Haffner each had two assists while Shawn Lantz had one.

Colton Culbert scored for Hanover while assists went to Noah Johnson and Brett Zabel.

The Patriots outshot the Barons 44-27 and went 2-for-7 on their power play while Hanover went 1-for-10.

Aidan Quish collected the win in net for Mount Forest while Luke Aulthouse took the loss for Hanover.

The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 25-5-0-0 while Hanover is tied for sixth at 5-23-0-3.

The Patriots are to host the Mitchell Hawks (16-12-1-1) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
