Patriots score five in a row to drop Kincardine

KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the final five goals of the game and their regular season as they dropped the Kincardine Bulldogs 7-3 in PJHL play Sunday at the Davidson Centre.

The game was the final one of the regular season for both teams and had been postponed from Friday due to that day’s snowstorm.

The Patriots scored two power-play goals, a shorthanded goal and an empty-net marker in the game while the Bulldogs had a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period and the Patriots led 6-3 after the second.

Brody Leblanc led the Patriots with two goals and two assists while Elijah Brahaney and Dylan Szymanowski each had a goal and two assists while Ben Tenhag, Austin Griffin and Jordan Leitch each had a goal. Griffin also had a single assist.

Liam Colhoun, Jake Ertel and Steven Grant scored single goals for the Bulldogs while Colhoun and Kieran Moore each had two assists and Grant and Carter Servais collected one apiece.

Mount Forest outshot Kincardine 45-37 and went 2-for-7 on their power play while Kincardine went 1-for-6.

Tristan Szymanowski had 34 saves for the Patriots while Christian DeJong had 21 saves in the first 33:21 of the game when Mount Forest scored five goals. Carter Garvie had 17 saves the rest of the way.

Mount Forest finished atop the Pollock Division at 32-9-0-1 and was followed by the Mitchell Hawks (26-11-3-2), Hanover Barons (26-12-2-2), Wingham Ironmen (26-13-2-1), Kincardine (18-18-5-1), Walkerton Capitals (8-32-1-1) and Goderich Flyers (7-33-2-0).

The division’s playoffs are to begin this week.
