Patriots skate away with win after netting six in a row

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots rifled home six consecutive goals as they dropped the Mitchell Hawks 7-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The scoring spree started late in the first period and it broke a 1-1 stalemate. It ended midway through the third with the Patriots up 7-1 at the time.

Mount Forest led 3-1 at the end of the first period and 6-1 after the second.

Michael Stefanelli and Klayton Hoelscher scored twice each for the Patriots while Thomas Haffner, Troy Weber and Dylan Brown also scored. Stefanelli had three assists while Brown and Klayton Hoelscher each had two and Luke Hoelscher, Derek Williams, Jack Birkett, Thomas Coulter, Haffner and Parker Miller each had one.

Brandon Williams and Jake Finlayson scored for Mitchell while Kaden Hoggarth assisted on both goals and Brandon Williams had an assist.

Mount Forest outshot the Hawks 47-29 and were scoreless on its four power plays while Mitchell was scoreless on its lone power play.

Aidan Quish had 29 saves in net for the Patriots while Bobby McLachlan had 40 for Mitchell.

Mount Forest is third in the Pollock Division standings at 9-4-1-0. Mitchell is fifth at 5-11-1-1.

Next up for the Patriots is a game against the Goderich Flyers Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
