
Patriots skate to Saturday victory over Walkerton
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored at least two goals in each period as they clobbered the Walkerton Capitals 9-2 in PJHL play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The Patriots scored the first seven goals of the game before Walkerton managed its first goal.

Mount Forest led 3-0 at the end of the first period and 7-1 after the second.
Bryan Richardson recorded a hat trick for the Patriots while Caleb Cribbin had a pair of goals. Adding a goal apiece were Cameron Voisin, Brody Leblanc, Evan Dewar and Dylan Szymanowski. Elijah Brahaney had four assists while Charlie Mckenzie and Leblanc had three apiece and Cribbin, Riley Torrie and Dylan Szymanowski had two each.
Graham Gateman and Jett Morningstar (on a penalty shot) scored for Walkerton while assists went to Trevor Fischer and J.J. Lavigne.
The Patriots outshot the Capitals 38-20 including a 21-9 advantage in the second period. The hosts also scored on all three of their power plays while Walkerton went 1-for-3 on its power play.
Trevor Szymanowski had 18 saves in the Mount Forest net and he also picked up an assist. Logan Bromley had 19 saves in the first 31:12 of the game for Walkerton while Kyle Rivers had 10 saves in the remainder of the match.
Friday night at the P and H Centre in Hanover, the Patriots yielded a pair of goals in the third period in a 5-3 loss to the host Hanover Barons.
Hanover led 3-1 at the end of the first period before Mount Forest tied it with a pair of goals in the second. Hanover’s third-period goals came in the final eight minutes of the period.
Cribbin scored all three goals for the Patriots while Brahaney had two assists and Richardson, Leblanc and Dewar had one apiece.
Scoring for Hanover were Payton McIsaac, Carter Moran, Jonah White, Spencer Davidson and Curtis Arnold who also had two assists. McIsaac, Chris Ferri, Ryan Goetz and Elliot Thomson each had an assist.
Mount Forest outshot Hanover 40-32 and the Patriots went 2-for-5 on their power play while Hanover went 1-for-6.
Vance Meyer had 27 saves in net for Mount Forest while Riley McCabe had 37 for Hanover.
The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 20-5-0-1 while the Mitchell Hawks are second at 17-5-2-2 and Hanover is third at 15-6-2-2. They’re followed by the Wingham Ironmen at 15-9-2-1, Kincardine Bulldogs at 12-11-3-1, Walkerton at 4-17-1-1 and Goderich Flyers at 3-23-0-0.
The Patriots have a pair of games next weekend as they’re to play the Ironmen at Wingham’s North Huron Wescast Community Centre Friday at 8 p.m. and host Mitchell Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
