Patriots slip by Hanover with third-period tally

HANOVER – A third-period goal by Chet Philips lifted the Mount Forest Patriots to a 2-1 victory over the Hanover Barons in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Tuesday night at the P and H Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the teams scored once apiece in the second.

The winner by Philips came almost exactly a period after the Patriots tied it on a second-period goal by Troy Weber.

That goal came just under four minutes after Hanover’s Mark Aljoe had opened the scoring in the game.

Derek Williams, Owen Rahn and Parker Miller each had an assist for Mount Forest.

Brandon Richardson and Derek Cornfield each had an assist on Aljoe’s goal for Hanover.

The Patriots outshot the Barons 34-26 and neither team recorded a power-play goal. Mount Forest had six power plays and Hanover had two.

David Lobsinger had 25 saves to get the win in net for the Patriots. Brendon Landry took the loss in the Hanover net.

The win moves Mount Forest into second in the Pollock Division at 13-6-1-0. Hanover is sixth at 7-12-1-1.

The Patriots have two games this weekend as they’re to play the Walkerton Hawks (6-10-2-3) at the Walkerton Community Centre Friday at 8:20 p.m. and host the division-leading Wingham Ironmen (16-3-1-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
