Patriots stung early as Alliston evens North final
ALLISTON – The Mount Forest Patriots surrendered a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the game as they were handed a 3-1 setback by the Alliston Hornets in Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff action Friday night at the New Tecumseh Recreation Centre.
The Patriots also ran into the hot goaltending of Tyler Ryan who turned aside 46 shots to get the win in the Alliston net.
Alliston led 2-0 at the end of the first period before the Patriots added the lone goal of the second. The Hornets had the only goal of the third.
Michael Anselmini scored the lone goal for the Patriots while assists went to Ryley Cribbin and Brody Leblanc.
Didier Koenigs, Ryan McReynolds and Christopher Carr-Ansah collected single goals for Alliston. Ryan Sallows assisted on two of the goals while Adam Hoppe, Gage Argue, Braydon Hogarth and Caden Maher each had one assist.
The Patriots outshot the Hornets 47-23, but were scoreless on four power plays while Alliston went 1-for-2.
Aidan Quish was tagged with the loss in the Mount Forest net, his first of the playoffs. He had 20 saves.
The result tied the best-of-seven North Conference final at a win apiece. Game 3 is to go Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.
