Patriots suffer another loss as they’re edged by Hanover
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots suffered their second loss in as many days Saturday night as they were edged 3-2 by the Hanover Barons in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and all the scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second.
The Patriots pressed in the third, outshooting Hanover 14-6, but they couldn’t pull even.
Ryley Cribbin and Troy Weber scored the goals for the Patriots while Riley Torrie, Blair Butchart and Parker Miller each had an assist.
Tyler Hooker scored twice for Hanover while Chris Ferri netted the other goal. Assists went to Alex Paylor, Dean Sealey, Derek Cornfield and Ryan Goetz.
The Patriots outshot Hanover 38-26, but were scoreless on their two power plays while Hanover scored on its lone power play.
Aidan Quish had 23 saves in net for Mount Forest while Brendon Landry had 36 for Hanover.
The win was Hanover’s second over the Patriots this season as they had won 7-2 at Hanover Oct. 11. Mount Forest won the other three meetings.
The game was also the first of three consecutive games with Hanover for the Patriots. They’re also to meet Saturday at 8 p.m. in Mount Forest and Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. in Hanover.
The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 24-5-1-0 while Hanover is fifth at 15-12-1-2.
