Patriots suffer midweek loss to Wingham Ironmen

WINGHAM – The Mount Forest Patriots suffered a 5-1 loss to the Wingham Ironmen in PJHL play Wednesday night at the North Huron Wescast Community Centre.

Wingham scored all five of its goals before Elijah Brahaney prevented the Patriots from being shutout when he scored five minutes into the third period.

The game was the second of two midweek games on Mount Forest’s schedule this season. They lost the other one 8-2 to the Mitchell Hawks at Mitchell Nov. 23.

Wednesday, the Ironmen scored twice in the first period and twice in the second before netting their final goal 19 seconds before Brahaney’s marker.

Caleb Cribbin and Austin Griffin had assists on Mount Forest’s goal.

Turner Mckenzie, Matt Tolton, Coleson Fischer, Tayt Bramhill and Nigel Kreager had a goal apiece for Wingham. Noah Bloemberg assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Bramhill, Patrick Galloway, Dawson Fahrer, Kyle Stanbury, Josh Dales and Josh Pham.

Wingham outshot the Patriots 26-23. While Mount Forest wasn’t assessed a single penalty in the game, the Patriots were scoreless on three power plays.

The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 25-7-0-1 while Wingham is fourth at 20-11-2-1.

The two teams are to meet again Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.

That game is to be the first of four consecutive home games for the Patriots who are to host third-place Mitchell (21-9-2-2) Sunday at 1 p.m., seventh-place Goderich Flyers (4-27-1-0) Feb. 10 at 8:30 p.m. and fifth-place Kincardine Bulldogs (16-13-3-1) Feb. 11 at 8 p.m.
