Patriots to battle Wingham in Pollock final

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots have an opponent for the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Pollock Division final and as expected it’s the Wingham Ironmen.

Wingham finished off its best-of-seven divisional semifinal with the Kincardine Bulldogs Saturday, winning 6-3 at home to claim a 4-2 series win.

Mount Forest swept the Walkerton Hawks 4-0 in their divisional semifinal, wrapping up the series Wednesday in Walkerton.

No dates have been announced for the best-of-seven divisional final.

The Patriots and Ironmen finished the regular season tied for first with 65 points apiece. Mount Forest was given the position and the accompanying bye in the divisional quarter-finals by virtues of having more wins – 32 to 31.

The Patriots and Wingham split their regular-season series, each winning three times. The Patriots won 4-2 at Mount Forest Nov. 24, 6-5 at Wingham Jan. 27 and 6-5 at home Feb. 2 in a game that was twice postponed by poor weather that made traveling treacherous.

Wingham won 7-1 at Wingham Oct. 26, 3-1 at home Dec. 14 and 5-4 at Mount Forest Dec. 29.

The Patriots will have home-ice advantage in the series.

Winner of the series will meet the Carruthers Division champion in the North Conference final, a league quarter-final.
