Patriots to open Pollock semifinal Wednesday

MOUNT FOREST ā€“ After getting a bye in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Pollock Division quarter-finals, the Mount Forest Patriots are ready to jump into the playoffs in the divisional semifinals.

The Patriots, first-place finishers at 32-9-1-0, are to play the fifth-place Walkerton Hawks (13-22-3-4) in a best-of-seven series that is to start Wednesday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

Game 2 is set for Friday at the Walkerton arena starting at 8:20 p.m.

Game 3 is to go Saturday at Mount Forest starting at 8 p.m.

Dates for the other games in the series have not been announced.

The Patriots and Walkerton met six times during the regular season and Mount Forest won all six with one of the wins coming in overtime.

In games played at Walkerton, the Patriots won 5-1 in the season opener Sept. 14, 5-4 Nov. 23 and 5-4 in OT Dec. 28. On home ice, the Patriots prevailed 6-2 Dec. 1, 2-1 Dec. 15 and 7-2 Jan. 19.

While the Patriots were idle in the divisional quarter-finals, the Hawks disposed of the fourth-place Hanover Barons (15-21-2-4) with a 4-2 series win.
