Patriots to start their playoffs Wednesday night

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots are to make their Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff seasonal debut Wednesday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots, who had a bye in the Pollock Division quarter-finals, are to host the Mitchell Hawks in the best-of-seven semifinals.

Mount Forest finished the regular season atop the division with a 33-7-1-1 record for 68 points, 19 more than the fourth-place Mitchell Hawks (21-14-2-5).

Mitchell swept the fifth-place Hanover Barons in four games in the division quarter-finals, outscoring the Barons 15-6. The Hawks and Barons actually finished even in points at the completion of the regular season, but Mitchell won the tie-breaker.

The Patriots swept the seven-game regular-season series with Mitchell, outscoring the Hawks 39-15 in the process. At home, the Patriots won 5-2 Dec. 14, 6-4 Dec. 20, 4-2 Jan. 22 and 6-2 Feb. 1. At Mitchell, the Patriots won 9-0 Oct. 13, 5-3 Nov. 15 and 4-2 Feb. 2.

Game time Wednesday at Mount Forest is 8:30 p.m.

Game 2 is slated for Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at the Mitchell Arena while Game 3 is to go Sunday at Mount Forest at 7:30 p.m. and Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Mitchell.

Games 5, 6 and 7 will be played only if they’re required. Game 5 is scheduled for Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. at Mount Forest, Game 6 is slated for March 1 at 3:10 p.m. at Mitchell and Game 7 is to go March 4 at 8:30 p.m. at Mount Forest.
