Patriots topple Walkerton for seventh win in a row

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots claimed their seventh consecutive win Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex as they tripled the Walkerton Hawks 6-2.

Mount Forest grabbed the lead for good with a power-play goal late in the first period that put the Patriots up 2-1 and they added to their lead with the lone goal of the second.

The hosts received single goals from Brady Becker, Michael Anselmini, Nathan Bolger, Chet Philips, Parker Miller and Troy Weber. Klayton Hoelscher and Philips each had two assists and Liam Magill, Thomas Haffner, Michael Stefanelli, Thomas Coulter, Weber, Derek Williams and Jack Birkett picked up one assist apiece.

Justin Donnelly and Spencer Elder scored for Walkerton and Owen Torrie and Elder each had one assist.

The Patriots outshot Walkerton 46-21 and went 2-for-5 on their power play while the Hawks went 1-for-3.

Aidan Quish was the winning netminder as he had 19 saves for the Patriots while Mathew Donnelly took the loss for Walkerton. He had 31 saves before being relieved by Kieran Chittick after Mount Forest’s fifth goal early in the third period.

The Patriots are second in the Pollock Division at 17-6-1-0. They trail the leading Wingham Ironmen (18-4-1-0) by two points and they’re three ahead of the third-place Kincardine Bulldogs (15-9-1-1).

Those are the next two opponents for the Patriots, both on the road, as they’re to play the Bulldogs Saturday at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre at 7:25 p.m. and the Ironmen Dec. 14 at Wingham’s Wescast Centre.
