Patriots topple Wellesley to wrap up their preseason
ELMIRA – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the final three goals of the game as they concluded their Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason with a 5-2 victory over the Wellesley Applejacks at the Woolwich Memorial Centre Saturday night.
The Patriots never trailed in the game although the Applejacks twice tied the score.
Mount Forest had the lone goal of the first period and led 3-2 after the second.
Ryley Cribbin had two goals and an assist for the Patriots while Dawson Bolger, Haydon Coulter and Will Black also scored. Getting one assist apiece were Liam McGill, Ben McRobbie, Michael Anselmini, Coulter, Jack Birkett, Peyton McIsaac and Luke Eurig.
Austin Cousineau scored both goals for Wellesley and assists went to Conner Bradley, Ian Wark, Gianfranco Commisso and goaltender Kailem Chappelle.
The Patriots outshot Wellesley 45-37 and went 2-for-5 on their power play while the Applejacks went 1-for-3.
Aiden Quish had 35 saves in the Mount Forest net while Chappelle had 40 for Wellesley.
The Patriots complete their preseason schedule at 3-1-0 while Wellesley is at 2-3-0 with a game to go Sunday.
Mount Forest is to open its regular season with a pair of games next weekend. The Patriots are to play the Wingham Ironmen at Wingham Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Walkerton Hawks Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
