Patriots turn on the power to get by Hanover
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for a pair of power-play goals to down the Hanover Barons 3-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The Patriots grabbed the lead with their two power-play goals, the first one midway through the first period and the second one with about three and a half minutes to go in the second period.
All of the scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second as the teams traded single goals in the final minute of the period, Hanover scoring with 45 seconds to go and Mount Forest replying with seven seconds to go.
Blair Butchart, Ryley Cribbin and Michael Anselmini scored the goals for the Patriots while Parker Miller had two assists and Michael Stefanelli, Cribbin, Butchart and Liam Magill had one apiece.
Zack Cameron scored for Hanover with help from Luke Hoelscher.
The Patriots outshot the Barons 40-24 and went 2-for-4 on their power play while Hanover was scoreless on five power plays.
Mason Kameka had 23 saves in the Mount Forest net while Brendon Landry had 37 saves for Hanover.
Mount Forest leads the Pollock Division at 25-5-1-0 while Hanover is fifth at 15-14-1-2.
The Patriots and Barons are to meet again Friday at Hanover’s P & H Centre starting at 8 p.m.
That game will be Mount Forest’s third consecutive game against the Barons as they also played Dec. 28 (3-2 win for Hanover). The Barons, though, also played the second-place Wingham Ironmen (24-7-1-1) Jan. 3 (5-1 win for Wingham) and are to play Wingham Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Wingham.
