Penalty-kick goal hands Gryphon soccer men victory
LONDON – A goal late in the first half lifted the Guelph Gryphons to a 1-0 win over the Western Mustangs in OUA men’s soccer league play Sunday at Mustangs Field.
Lucas Doros hit in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick for the lone goal of the game.

The goal came on one of two shots the Gryphs took in the first half. The Mustangs didn’t take any. Guelph outshot Western 7-3 and took all four shots in the game that reached the net.
Guelph’s Gray Yates had a shot rattle off a post midway through the first half and the locals also had a couple of shots on net in injury time in the second half.
Western took three of the four corner kicks in the game.
Svyatoslav Artemenko was credited with the shutout for the Gryphs.
The Gryphs lead the West Division at 3-0-1 while Western is in a three-way tie for third at 1-2-1.
Guelph and Waterloo (2-0-0) are to play twice this week. They’re to battle at Warrior Field in Waterloo Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. and at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Friday at 8:15 p.m.
