Pfeffer’s hat trick powers Minto to victory

PALMERSTON – Wade Pfeffer struck for a hat trick as he powered the Minto 81’s to a 6-1 victory over the Petrolia Squires in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey play Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

The hosts led 3-1 at the end of the first period before adding two more goals in the second and their final one in the opening minute of the third.

Kalob Witzell, Tommy Hoogaars and Collin Hartwick each netted single goals for Minto while Zach Graham and Adam Kawawlec each had two assists. Single assists were given to Jake Pleon, Francois Cote, Tyler Harrison, Jamison Buck, Kyle Ellis and Pfeffer.

Derek Wagner scored for Petrolia with help from Steve Farlow.

Marc Williams was the winning netminder for Minto while Roberts Finsters was charged with the loss for Petrolia.

The win lifts the 81’s into a tie for ninth with the Elora Rocks. They have identical 5-7-0-1 records. Petrolia falls into a tie for 11th with the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives. Petrolia’s at 5-11-0-0 while Milverton’s at 3-7-0-4.

The 81’s are to complete the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a pair of away games and they’re to play the Durham Thundercats (7-6-0-1) at Durham Friday at 8:30 p.m. and the Tillsonburg Thunder (8-4-0-0) at Tillsonburg Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
