Playoff participants known in D4 boys volleyball

PALMERSTON – The playoff participants are decided in both the District 4 high school boys’ volleyball junior and senior leagues.

Top four in the standings in each league qualify for next week’s playoffs.

Westside Thunder, Wellington Heights Wolverines, Erin Raiders and Norwell Varsity Reds have grabbed spots in the senior playoffs.

Competing in the junior playoffs will be the Westside Thunder, Centre Dufferin Royals, Erin Raiders and Wellington Heights Wolverines.

There is still one match to play in the senior loop as Westside is to host Norwell Friday afternoon. However, the result of that match will not change the playoff participants or the playoff matchups. A win by Norwell Friday would leave the Varsity Reds and Erin tied for third, but Erin would win the tiebreaker as the Raiders beat Norwell Wednesday.

The Norwell win would also leave Westside and Wellington Heights tied for first, but the Thunder defeated the Wolverines Wednesday.

All playoff matches are to be held next Wednesday at a site to be decided.

The senior semifinals at 8 a.m. feature Westside against Norwell against and Wellington Heights against Erin. Winners advance to the championship match while losers will battle in the consolation final. Both of those matches are set for 11 a.m.

The junior playoffs are also slated for next Wednesday at the same location as the senior playoffs.

Junior semifinals are set for 9:30 a.m. while the championship game and consolation final are to go at 12:30 p.m.

Westside and Centre Dufferin are to be the home teams in the semifinals while Erin and Wellington Heights are to provide the opposition. Exact pairings depend on the result of Wednesday’s Erin-Wellington Heights match. That score was not reported as of Thursday morning.
