Power-play goal in third gives win to Shamrocks

DUNNVILLE – A power-play goal in the third period lifted the Hespeler Shamrocks to a Provincial Junior Hockey League victory over the Dunnville Mudcats Friday night at the Dunnville Memorial Arena.

That goal was the lone goal of the game as Hespeler prevailed 1-0 for its second consecutive win.

Kyle Yetman, acquired from the Paris Mounties in a trade last weekend, connected for the goal with 3:48 to go in regulation time. Brett Hartin picked up an assist on the play.

The Shamrocks outshot the Mudcats 27-26 and went 1-for-5 on their power play while Dunnville was scoreless on four power plays.

Gavin McLeod stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season and second in two seasons with the Shamrocks.

Mitch Harvey took the loss for Dunnville although he also had 26 saves.

The victory allows the Shamrocks to leapfrog the Mudcats into sixth in the eight-team Bloomfield Division. Hespeler is at 7-13-0-1 while Dunnville’s at 7-14-0-0.

The Shamrocks are to host the fourth-place Dundas Blues (10-8-1-1) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
