Power-play goals power Rocks to victory over Killer Bees

FERGUS – The Elora Rocks connected for a trio of power-play goals to claim a 5-1 victory over the Alvinston Killer Bees Sunday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex to put themselves on the verge of moving into the WOSHL’s semifinals.

A pair of power-play goals less than two and a half minutes apart early in the second period turned a one-goal lead at the end of the first period into a three-goal advantage before the second period was five minutes old.

The win gives Elora a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five quarter-final playoff series.

Zack Cameron had two goals and two assists for the Rocks to give him seven points in the two games while Matteo Condotta also scored twice. Nicholas Boehmer also scored while Alex Uttley had two assists. Single assists went to Chad Herron, Condotta, Mike Giacometti, Zac McInall, Brendan Woods and goalkeeper Colin Dunne.

Tye Johnson scored a power-play goal for Alvinston with Dawson Winchester and Matt Stevens getting assists on the goal.

The Rocks outshot the Killer Bees 39-30 and went 3-for-5 on their power play while Alvinston went 1-for-7.

Dunne had 29 saves for the Rocks while Nolan DeKoning had 34 for Alvinston.

Game 3 is set for Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

If a fourth game is needed, it’s to be played Saturday at Alvinston starting at 6:30 p.m. while a fifth game would be played Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Elora if the series goes its five-game maximum.
