The win keeps the Patriots’ hopes of a first-place finish in the Pollock Division alive. With two games to go in their regular season, they’re at 30-9-1-0 and are four points behind the division-leading Wingham Ironmen (31-6-2-1). Mitchell wrapped up its regular season and will finish sixth in the seven-team division at 12-25-2-3.
The Patriots have two games left on their regular-season schedule and both are against Wingham. They’re to play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Wingham’s Wescast Complex and they also have a game to play in Mount Forest that was postponed Friday night due to poor weather conditions.
For Mount Forest to finish first in the division, the Patriots have to win both games and they have to win them both by a total of eight or more goals.
Wingham leads the season series between the teams 3-1 and the Ironmen have outscored the Patriots 17-10 in those games.
First place in the division means a bye in the divisional quarter-finals while the second-place team will play the seventh-place Goderich Flyers (8-29-2-3).
