Quick start leads Gryphon lacrosse men to victory
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored the first six goals of the game on their way to an 11-7 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association play at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
The Gryphs led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, 6-1 at halftime and 10-2 at the end of the third quarter.
James Short and Mike Berger scored twice apiece for the Gryphs while single goals were added by Mitchell Ogilvie, Zachery Luis, Alec Simons, Thomas Whitty, Brandon Tanacs, Noah Glass and Quinn Stanhope. Ogilvie collected three assists while Luis had two and Simons, Jackson Nishimura and Connor Watson each had one.
Davis Bottomley struck for four goals for Toronto while Jackson Hickey, Aiden Guld and Darren Elliott also scored. Hickey and Guld each had two assists while Bottomley, Alex Emerson and Sean Power had one apiece.
Dennis Semenovych picked up the win in the Guelph net while Matthew Frola was tagged with the loss in net for Toronto.
The result leaves Guelph at 3-2 and Toronto at 3-3.
The Gryphs are to host the Western Mustangs (4-0) Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
