Quick start propels Elora Mohawks to win over Welland
ELORA – Take away the first 21 minutes and the last five minutes and the Elora Mohawks and Welland Generals battled evenly in their Ontario junior B lacrosse league game Saturday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.
However, the Mohawks scored six times in the first 21 minutes and four times in the last five minutes for a 14-4 win.
The hosts led 5-0 at the end of the first period and 7-2 after the second.
Dean Sealey rifled home four goals for the Mohawks while Brett Harrison had a hat trick and Zack Cameron scored twice. Getting one goal apiece were Jayden Bushey, Logan Cameron, Sam Dramnitzke, Dawson Bolger and Trent Spear. Logan Cameron and Hyatt Welsh each had four assists while Harrison had three, Bushey, Dramnitzke and Sealey had two each and Louie Ristov, Owen O’Donnell, Dawson Bolger, Nathan Bolger and Spear had one apiece.
Justin Porga tallied twice for Welland and Hayden Miller and Codi Goss also scored. Ethen Wellings assisted on three of the goals while the goal scorers each had one assist.
The Mohawks are to complete their regular season Sunday with a game against the Windsor Clippers. Game time at the Elora and District Community Centre is 7 p.m.
Both the Mohawks and Clippers have secured playoff berths.
