Quick trio of goals start Spartans on way to victory

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans scored their first three goals in a span of one minute and 45 seconds midway through the first period on their way to a 5-0 blanking of the Guelph CVI Green Gaels in District 10 high school girls’ hockey play Monday at Centennial arena.

The Spartans led 4-0 at the end of the first period before a scoreless second.

Amy Coppolino, Kiera Lylyk, Hannah Lawler, Cassie Tonin and Aileigh Wilker each scored a goal for the Spartans while assists went to Kaitlin Reimer, Wilker, Lilah Klassen and Lylyk.

Kayla McDougall had the shutout.

The win lifts Centennial to 2-2-0-0. The Spartans are in a four-way tie for second with the Ross Royals (2-0-0-0), Lourdes Crusaders (2-1-0-0) and Bishop Macdonell Celtics (2-1-0-0).

GCVI (0-4-1-0) is tied for sixth with the St. James Lions (0-3-1-0).

Sydney Healey struck for five goals for Centre Wellington while Abby Ferguson and Natalie Bielhartz each scored twice. Single goals were added by Cameron Bielhartz, Ella Chase, Morgan Robinson and Abbey Zwep. Robinson assisted on two of the goals while Healey, Zwep, Erin Sinclair and Amanda Johnston each had one.

Emily Hagen picked up the shutout.

Centre Wellington leads the league at 4-0-0-0.
