Raiders, Royals to meet in senior girls’ hoops final

ERIN – The Erin Raiders and Centre Dufferin Royals get a bit of time to prepare to meet in the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball league’s championship game.

Both posted semifinal victories Wednesday to advance to the D4 final that is set for Nov. 14 at a time and location to be announced.

Erin had finished second in the six-team league at 8-2 while Centre Dufferin of Shelburne was fourth at 5-5. The other playoff qualifiers were the first-place Wellington Heights Wolverines (9-1) of Mount Forest and the third-place Emmanuel Christian Eagles (6-4) of Fergus.

Missing the playoffs were the Westside Thunder of Orangeville at 2-8 and the Norwell Varsity Reds of Palmerston at 0-10.

Wednesday, Centre Dufferin defeated Wellington Heights 25-16 and Erin beat Emmanuel Christian 52-43.

Erin won both regular-season matches with Centre Dufferin as the Raiders prevailed 30-14 at home in the season openers Sept. 21 and 43-33 at Shelburne Oct. 12.

Callista Daly had nine points for Centre Dufferin.

Leah Richardson netted five for Wellington Heights.

Lauren Bailey had a game-high 22 points for Erin while Emma Warren added 10.

Henrietta T. Led Emmanuel Christian with 15 points while Trinity Taekema chipped in with 11.

 

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus and Erin Raiders are to meet in the league final Monday at Emmanuel Christian.

The Eagles and Raiders gained their berths in the final by finishing in the top two places in the three-team league.

Emmanuel Christian won all four of its regular-season games while Erin went 1-3 and won the tiebreaker with the Wellington Heights Wolverines who were also at 1-3.

The Eagles defeated the Raiders 38-23 at Erin Oct. 5 and 29-24 in Fergus Oct. 26 in the final game of the league’s regular season.

Monday’s final is to start at 2:30 p.m.
