Raiders take a pair of close victories in senior girls’ hoops

ERIN – The Erin Raiders remained unbeaten and moved into top spot in the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball league with a pair of slim wins this week.

Wednesday at home, the Raiders slipped by the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 28-27 after needing overtime to claim a 28-26 win over the Westside Thunder Monday in Orangeville.

Wednesday, Emma Warren had 12 points for Erin while Samantha Foreman added four.

Emmanuel Christian received eight points from Bethany M. and six from Tiffany B.

Monday, Lauren Bailey and Katiana Vernon each had 11 points for Erin.

Jessica Burnside had nine for Westside and Catherine McLean added six.

Erin leads the league at 4-0 while the Wellington Heights Wolverines are also undefeated at 3-0. Centre Dufferin Royals are at 3-1 while Emmanuel Christian’s at 2-3, Westside’s at 1-4 and the Norwell Varsity Reds are at 0-5.

Erin and Wellington Heights are to play Friday afternoon in Mount Forest.

Junior Girls

Emmanuel Christian Eagles swept a pair of games this week, the first two played in the league this year.

The Eagles defeated the Erin Raiders 38-23 Wednesday at Erin. Leading scorers were not reported.

Monday, the Eagles downed the Wellington Heights Wolverines 38-18 at Mount Forest.

L. Westrik and A. Taekema each had eight points for the Eagles.

N. Gorkena had a game-high 10 for the Wolverines.

The league is operating with three teams this year. Erin is to play at Wellington Heights Friday.

The other three games of the season are to be played Oct. 19 to 26.
