Redcoats men get first wins as locals drop Vaughan

VAUGHAN – The Guelph Redcoats scored their first victory of the season in Rugby Ontario’s Marshall Division men’s firsts play Saturday at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School.

The Redcoats scored three tries for a hard-fought 21-14 victory over the Vaughan Yeomen. Vaughan had two tries.

The result leaves both teams with 1-3-0 records.

The Guelph side is tied with London St. George for third in the West Division while Vaughan is fourth in the South Division. Each of the league’s four divisions has four teams.

Next up for the Redcoats is a match against the Brantford Harlequins at Brantford next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Brantford is first in the West at 4-0-0.

 

Marshall Seconds

The Redcoats also collected their first win in seconds play with a 40-5 triumph over Vaughan’s seconds.

The locals struck for six tries and held Vaughan to one.

The Redcoats are also tied with London St. George for third in the West Division as both teams are 1-3-0 on the season.

Vaughan has lost all three of its matches.

The Redcoats are to play the Brantford Harlequins at Brantford next Saturday at 2 p.m. The Harlequins lead the West at 4-0-0.

 

OWL Firsts

The Redcoats remained unbeaten in Ontario Women’s League Firsts play as they dropped the Oshawa Vikings 37-5 at Thompson Park Saturday.

The locals hit for seven tries while Oshawa had one.

The Redcoats are the six-team league’s only undefeated team as they lead at 4-0-0. Oshawa is sixth at 0-4-0.

Between the two are the Toronto Nomads and Aurora Barbarians both at 3-1-0 and Brantford Harlequins and Balmy Beach both at 1-3-0.

The Redcoats are to play the Brantford Harlequins at Brantford next Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
