Redcoats women dump Crusaders to finish regular season

GUELPH – The Guelph Redcoats completed their Ontario Women’s League Firsts regular-season rugby play by thrashing the Crusaders of Oakville 76-5 Saturday at Exhibition Park. The Redcoats struck for 12 tries in the match while the Crusaders had one.

The result gave the Redcoats a second-place finish in the West Division at 7-3-0 while the Crusaders finished fourth at 0-10-0.

Brantford Harlequins were first at 8-2-0 and Niagara Wasps third at 3-7-0.

Toronto Saracens finished atop the East Division at 8-2-0 while Aurora Barbarians were second at 7-3-0, Toronto Nomads third at 4-6-0 and Toronto Scottish fourth at 3-7-0.

The Redcoats advance to OWL Cup First Team play Saturday. Details are to be announced.


NRU Men A1

The Redcoats downed Fergus Highland 43-14 at Exhibition Park Saturday.

The hosts collected seven tries in the match while Highland scored two.

The Redcoats are tied for first in the league with the Sarnia Saints, but have a game in hand on Sarnia. The Redcoats are at 7-1-0 while Sarnia’s at 7-2-0. Highland is fifth at 3-6-0 and 15 points with bonus points added in.

Niagara Wasps are third at 6-2-0, Hamilton Hornets fourth at 3-6-0 and eight bonus points and Norfolk Harvesters are sixth at 0-9-0.

The Redcoats and Sarnia are to tangle in Sarnia Saturday at 3 p.m. and the Redcoats are also to host Niagara at Exhibition Park Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. in a game postponed in May.


NRU Men A2

The Redcoats handed Fergus Highland a 32-12 setback in league play Saturday at Exhibition Park.

The Guelph side gathered six tries in the match while the Fergus side had two.

The result leaves the Redcoats at 6-2-0 and Highland at 1-8-0.

The Redcoats are to play the Sarnia Saints at Sarnia Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
