
Redcoats women take opener, men’s teams dropped
TORONTO – The defending champion Guelph Redcoats opened Ontario women’s rugby league’s first division season with a 19-14 victory over the Toronto Nomads Saturday at Eglinton Flats.
The Redcoats struck for three tries in the match, one more than the Nomads.
In men’s play at London, the Redcoats were clouted 71-19 by London St. George in Marshall first division action. The game was the first for Redcoats in the provincial division.
The locals had three tries in the match while St. George had 11.
In Marshall second division play, St. George downed the Redcoats 31-7. The Guelph side had one try while St. George had five.
All three teams will be off on the holiday weekend but back in action May 28.
The Redcoats women are to play Balmy Beach in a road match while the Redcoats men are to play Waterloo County at Waterloo’s Bluevale Collegiate.
