Redcoats women to play in OWL Firsts semifinals
GUELPH – The Guelph Redcoats clinched a berth in the Ontario Women’s Rugby League’s semifinals with a 50-19 win over Waterloo County Saturday at Exhibition Park.
The Redcoats lead the league’s West Conference at 7-2-0 and 37 points while the Niagara Wasps are second at 6-2-1 and 33 points.
Top two in each conference qualify for the league’s semifinals.
The Redcoats and Niagara are to complete their regular seasons Thursday when they meet Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Eastview Park in a game that was postponed early in the season when the opening of the fields in Guelph was delayed due to a wet spring.
The team that finishes first in the conference hosts the Aurora Barbarians who finished second in the East at 7-3-0. Toronto Saracens, first in the East at 9-1-0, are to host the West’s second-place finisher.
The semifinals are set for Aug 11 at 1 p.m.
NRU Women A1 Division
Fergus Highland dropped the Hamilton Hornets 63-19 Saturday at Hamilton to finish fourth in the league at 5-5-.
Hamilton was sixth at 0-10-0.
NRU Women’s Cup playoffs are to start Aug. 11 with the quarter-finals.
NRU Men A1 Division
The Guelph Redcoats defeated the Windsor Rogues 20-0 by forfeit to finish second in the league at 8-2-0.
Fergus Highland suffered a 45-3 loss to the Hamilton Hornets to leave the teams with identical 3-7-0 records. However, Hamilton finishes fourth due to having two more bonus points than Fergus.
NRU Men’s Cup play is to start Aug 11 with the quarter-finals.
NRU Men A2 Division
The Guelph Redcoats are second in the league at 7-2-0 and they were to have completed their regular season with a match against the Windsor Rogues Saturday.
Fergus Highland was handed a 27-19 setback by the Hamilton Hornets Saturday. Fergus finishes the regular season fifth at 2-8-0 while Hamilton is fourth at 4-6-0.
