Regals clipped by Northmen in Orangeville

ORANGEVILLE – The Guelph Regals surrendered three goals in the third period as they suffered a 7-4 loss to the Orangeville Northmen in Ontario junior B lacrosse league play Tuesday night at the Alder Street Recreation Centre.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and Orangeville led 4-3 at the end of the second.

The hosts scored the fist two goals of the third before Reed Kurtz connected for the Regals to cut the gap to two goals with 1:22 to play. However, Orangeville added an empty-netter with 40 seconds to go to round out the scoring.

Shane Halliwell had a pair of goals for the Regals while Kurtz and Liam Holwell also scored. Kurtz collected two assists and Carter McGrath, Luke Kivell, Cohen Campbell, Carter TenEycke, Curtis Webb and Zach Sanders each had one.

Orangeville received goals from Quinten Schneider, Tanner Buck, Brock Giles, Josh Goodwin, Liam McGrath, Mitchell Bernier and Riley Armstrong. Goalkeeper Daniel Tanner assisted on three of the goals while Giles had two assists and Schneider, Jeremy Sant, Buck, Jeremy Searle and Armstrong each had one assist.

Orangeville outshot Guelph 52-38 and both teams were scoreless on their power plays, the Regals on four and the Northmen on three.

Chris Wood took the loss in the Guelph net while Tanner picked up the win for Orangeville.

The Northmen improve to 2-1-0 with the win while the Regals fall to 2-3-0.

The Regals have a pair of road games this weekend as they’re to play the Point Edward Pacers (0-3-0) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and the Wallaceburg Red Devils (4-1-0) Sunday at 3 p.m.
