Regals edged by Windsor for fourth consecutive loss

GUELPH – After starting the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season with four consecutive victories, the Guelph Regals saw their record fall to the .500 mark with an 11-10 loss to the Windsor Clippers Sunday afternoon at the Victoria Road arena.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Regals.

Three consecutive goals in the second period gave Windsor a lead it wouldn’t relinquish, although two goals with an extra attacker on in the final three minutes of the game cut the gap to the final single-goal margin.

The teams were tied 4-4 at the end of the first period and Windsor led 9-7 at the end of the second.

Owen Orpana was a scoring machine for the Regals as he had five goals while Ethan Keleher scored twice. Single goals were added by Parker Lock, Tyler Beecraft and Aiden Marroni. Dallon Evans had four assists while Ethan Keleher had three, Landon Wideman two and Dylan Goddard and Dylan Davey had one apiece.

Xander Derkatz had a hat trick for Windsor while Malikye Good and Connor McManus scored twice apiece. Getting one goal each were Brandon Coulter, Calum Brennan, Nathan DeThomasis and Josh Rosa. Max Frattaroli set up six goals while Good had four assists, Brennan three, Kane Murphy two and DeThomasis, Derkatz and Jack Bulmer one each.

Windsor outshot the Regals 54-43 and went 3-for-5 on its power play while the Guelph side went 1-for-8.

Dante Mancini had 43 saves in net for the Regals while Chase Cosgrove had 33 for Windsor.

While the Regals are at 4-4-0, the Clippers are at 4-1-0.

The Regals have a pair of road games this week as they’re to play the Owen Sound North Stars (4-2-0) at Owen Sound Wednesday at 8 p.m. and the Six Nations Rebels (4-4-0) at Hagersville Friday at 8 p.m.
