Regals fast out of blocks in victory over London

GUELPH – The Guelph Regals struck for the first six goals of the game on their way to a 17-8 victory over the London Blue Devils in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Friday at the Victoria Road arena.

The Regals led 7-2 at the end of the first period and 14-5 at the end of the second.

Owen Orpana and Marcus Keleher connected for four goals apiece for the Regals while Dylan Goddard had a hat trick. The other goals were scored by Mason Walton, Sam MacDonald, Marcus Visentin, Julian Siragusa, Cam Wheeldon and Hayden Sabourin. Keleher had five assists while Goddard had four and Walton and Orpana had three apiece. Zachary Wright had two while single assists were awarded to goalkeeper Ty Fox-Trudel, Kyle Beecraft, Sam MacDonald, Tyler Beecraft, Wheeldon and Reid MacDonald.

Brendan Campbell had three goalos and two assists for London while Declan McEvoy, Tyson Currah, Kahelot Powless, Nate Doxtator and Connor Zavitz each scored once. Tyler Fletcher, Ty Clarke, Doxtator and Zavitz each had two assists while Powless had one.

The Regals outshot London 57-35 and they went 7-for-16 on their power play while the Blue Devils were 3-for-7. London was assessed 72 minutes in penalties including two unsportsmanlike conduct misconducts, a match penalty and three major penalties. The Regals had 37 minutes in penalties including an unsportsmanlike conduct misconduct and three major penalties.

Fox-Trudel had 27 saves for the Regals while starter Harrison Kerr had 33 for London. He was replaced by Gavin Clarke with 8:43 to play and Clarke stopped all seven shots he faced.

The win lifted the Regals to 6-2-0 while the loss left the Blue Devils at 1-5-0.

The Regals are to play the Windsor Clippers (3-2-0) at Windsor’s Forest Glade arena Sunday at 4 p.m.
